Tempus AI announced the acquisition of Deep 6 AI, a precision research platform that specialises in clinical trial matching through AI analysis of electronic medical records (EMRs). The purchase marks the latest in Tempus’ deal spree following its IPO last June that raised US$410.7 million.

Financial terms for the Deep 6 purchase were not disclosed, but the move expands Tempus’ provider network by adding Deep 6’s connections to over 750 provider site locations and more than 30 million patients.

“Deep 6’s impressive integration infrastructure is well-suited to complement our connectivity efforts,” said chief executive at Tempus Eric Lefkofsky. “This acquisition broadens our reach… and enhances our ability to deploy critical applications like Next, which helps physicians close care gaps, and TIME, which helps patients find potentially life-saving clinical trials.”

Deep 6’s AI-powered software digs through both real-time structured and unstructured EMR data across a broad ecosystem, including academic medical centres, National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centres, and NCI community oncology research programmes.

The buyout follows Tempus’ completion earlier this year of its US$600-million purchase of Ambry Genetics, which cost the company US$375 million in cash and $225 million in shares.

It also complements a partnership with Stemline Therapeutics, announced last month, which uses Tempus’ AI-enabled Next care platform to identify breast cancer patients who should be tested for ESR1 mutations.
