PNCC’s CFO, Robert Ramarui, attended the 2025 Syniverse Asia Pacific Users’ Group Conference in Hong Kong recently, participating in a panel on 5G Standalone (SA) roaming strategies, Cyber Era NG learns. We gather that this event allowed PNCC to showcase its progress on our new 5G mobile network project, and gain insights into 5G roaming implementation, which is vital for Palau’s tourism-dependent economy.

The new PNCC Open RAN 4G / 5G SA network, set to launch in 2026, is the first of its kind in Oceania and one of only around 60 fully standalone 5G networks worldwide—placing PNCC in the top 8 per cent of mobile network operators globally. With just a handful of these networks built using Open RAN architecture, this launch underscores Palau’s leadership in technology and telecommunications and brings us one step closer to becoming the best connected country in all of Oceania.

5G Standalone (SA) is a 5G network architecture that functions independently of existing 4G infrastructure, delivering a fully 5G-driven experience. Unlike Non-Standalone (NSA) networks, which depend on a 4G core with 5G enhancements, 5G SA operates using a dedicated 5G core to manage all traffic and data, resulting in higher speeds, lower latency, higher security and improved network performance compared to 4G or 5G NSA networks.
