The Board of Directors of Altán Redes appointed Anthony McCarthy Sandland as the new President of the company and Carlos Lerma Cotera as General Director.

Both directors pointed out that the company is strategic to achieve greater internet coverage in the country and stressed that La Red Compartida is a transformative telecommunications project that will meet its goals of social coverage, while becoming more competitive in the market.

Anthony McCarthy Sandland is a professional banker who has worked at JP Morgan-Chase, Bancomer, HSBC and BCP Securities. His strong negotiation and decision-making skills, as well as his skills aimed at resolving strategic and financial situations, have allowed him to generate a positive impact on the companies in which he has worked.

Carlos Lerma Cotera is an executive with solid knowledge in Project Management and Finance, as well as extensive experience in public administration. He has a successful 20-year career, leading strategic and financial operations from Development Banking for the benefit of sectors such as Energy, Infrastructure, Industrial, Tourism, Agriculture and Real Estate.

During his first message to the Council, Carlos Lerma said: “My commitment is to reconcile the fundamental vision and goals of the Mexican State and private investors, comply with the social and development impact of the country, but with economic profitability that allows its viability and return on investment in the long term.

“All the effort and dedication will be aimed at making Altán Redes an efficient and profitable company,” he asserted.

In addition to McCarthy (BMD), the members of the new Board of Directors are Blanca Treviño (BMD), Héctor Toledo (BMD), Raúl Lucido (BMD), Carlos Robles Gil (BMD), Héctor Velarde (BMD), Yacine Saidji (NHIP ), Johan Pfeiffer (NHIP), Laura Vila (CMF) and Mohsin Sohani (CMF).

The Board thanked and recognized the exemplary leadership of Bernardo Sepúlveda, as Chairman of the Board, and Salvador Álvarez, as General Director, who formally left the company today .

“For me it is a source of satisfaction to have contributed to promoting the implementation of the Red Compartida developed by Altán. The company has reached a coverage of 70 per cent of the population. It also means that Altán provides internet, in a social coverage function, to more than 12 million inhabitants who previously did not have that service. I highlight the high social meaning of the Red Compartida project, which is manifested by noting that 108,000 localities with less than 5,000 inhabitants are now connected”, said Bernardo Sepúlveda in his farewell to the Council.
