The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said that allowing infrastructure status to the technology-intensive broadcasting sector would facilitate capital borrowing and enable players to upgrade their equipment.
“Grant of infrastructure status will enable the industry players including broadcasters, cable providers, and multi-system operators to raise capital. Being a technology-intensive sector, stakeholders need to invest in newer technologies on a continuous basis,” Trai chairman Ram Sewak Sharma told ET.
The industry, according to the top official would need the capital for upgrading the existing infrastructure including equipment. https://telecom.economictimes.indiatimes.com
