Currently in its 9th year, the International Institute of Communications( IIC’s) annual Latin America & Caribbean Telecom & Media Forum will once again be in-person, in Miami, and the IIC says it is looking forward to seeing all its members and wider community once again.

This piece of cheery news is borne in an IIC communication, to which Cyber Era NG is privy and authored by the IIC Director-General, Lynn Robinson.

“We will be continuing our signature combination of senior level international debate and sharing of experiences in a neutral, collegiate environment, under the Chatham House Rule. Regulators, policy makers, industry and civil society from South & Central America and the Caribbean will gather to discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by digital transformation,” stated IIC.

There will be Spanish / English simultaneous translation.

Speakers that have been confirmed for the conference include:

  • Secretary General, Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) Rodney Taylor
  • Executive Director and Communications Commissioner, Commission for Communications Regulation, Colombia, Paola Andrea Bonilla Castaño
  • Secretary of Broadcasting, Ministry of Communications, Brazil, Maximiliano S. Martinhão
  • Chairman, Barbados Broadcasting Authority; Director, National Transformation Initiative, Government of Barbados, Allyson Leacock

Cyber Era NG understands that the organizers  are programming the agenda based on feedback from its membership across the region.

Panel themes include:

  • New tools – sharing best practice and experiences with regulatory sandboxes, smart regulation, regulatory collaboration & cooperation
  • Digital transformation in the LatAm and Caribbean regions – what are the missing pieces of the jigsaw?
  • Supporting the creative economy, promoting media diversity and local content, tackling piracy and copyright protection
  • Approaches to online platform regulation – balancing economic and social considerations
  •  Spectrum – are traditional policies of direct and specific allocation of spectrum still appropriate as demand increases and as 5G evolves?

The organizers would like to thank Frontier Economics and Squire Patton Boggs for their sponsorship of this Forum.

Registration is now open. A small fee is applicable for non-members
