Comtech CEO Optimistic About 911 Segment Under Allerium Name

Comtech President and CEO Ken Traub says Allerium public-safety segment is positioned for ‘positive momentum’ in the 911 sector during 2026

Under the new name of Allerium, the Comtech public-safety segment is positioned—technologically and financially—to increase its market share in the 911 sector during 2026 and into the future, according to Comtech President and CEO Ken Traub.

Traub said that Allerium—known as Comtech’s Terrestrial & Wireless segment until the Allerium rebranding was announced in November—has performed solidly, but financial warnings with the other segment of Comtech’s overall business proved problematic for the 911 business. Since Traub was named as Comtech’s CEO in February, the company has renegotiated with its creditors and largely removed the financial issues that could have created some hesitancy among public-safety prospects.

“We did face significant challenges, including operational losses,” Traub said during an interview with IWCE’s Urgent Communications. “It wasn’t Allerium, it was primarily the Satellite and Space segment and the company’s capital structure. And it’s because of that that we had this frankly ugly disclosure in our SEC filings that said the company had uncertainty about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern.

“I knew that was a big deal. We’re selling mission-critical technologies and services. Our customers and vendors want to know that we’re here for the long term. We needed to resolve that, and we’re fortunate that we have.”

Now, Allerium is positioned to reassure public-safety customers, vendors and employees that the Comtech capital structure is designed to provide a solid financial foundation, according to Traub.

“All of that is creating a positive cycle that is strengthening the business going forward,” Traub said. “We’ve removed the prior constraint, and we’ve created a positive momentum.

“That’s driven by those changes at the corporate level. Now, we’re coupling it with new, innovative technologies and services at Allerium that position us really well to provide a more comprehensive solution for the changing needs of the public-safety market.”

Allerium President Jeff Robertson said the company’s 911 prowess is reflected in the fact that 12 states and regions utilize the company’s Guardian call-handling technology today. Meanwhile, Allerium is preparing to launch Mira—a cloud-based call-handling solutions that is designed initially to leverage private, secure ESInets—during the first half of this year, he said.

Mira is designed to be more secure than 911 solutions that utilize web portals and access information housed in cloud environments that can access via the general Internet, Robertson said.

“That has added a lot of complexity to the PSAP, so we are trying to say, ‘If you have invested in a next-generation 911 network—whether it’s Allerium’s or someone else’s—all of that information should come over that secure, private network,’” Robertson said during an interview with IWCE’s Urgent Communications. “We’ve got to quit adding these portals that add screens and complexity for the poor telecommunicators who already have a ton of things coming at them.

“It’s not to hinder the innovation. It’s more to have that [data] come over the private, secure network. Don’t open up these firewall portal—or holes—at the PSAP level … We’d like to see that [data] run over the ESInet, not the Internet.”

In addition, Allerium is working on artificial-intelligence (AI) technology to power functionality that can help ease the burden on 911 telecommunicators who otherwise risk being overwhelmed by the massive amounts of data that could come to them via camera and sensors, according to Robertson.

“We believe that there’s no way that they’re going to be able to handle this onslaught of data,” he said. “It’s hard enough just to answer the phones, let alone this other data that’s coming with these incidents.”
