The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) will hold meetings on abusive calls with associations, companies and government agencies between 6 and 17 February. With the initiative, the Agency hopes to broaden the dialogue on the future of measures to combat abusive calls and the search for joint solutions.

Entities linked to consumer protection and the telecommunications and teleservices sectors (telemarketing, telecharging, etc.) will be invited, among other stakeholders. Interested in contributing can register through a specific form until January 13, 2023.

The idea is to listen to the participants about the solutions already adopted by the Agency and receive proposals that contribute to the reduction of the number of short calls (from 0 to 3 seconds, answered or not) made to Brazilian consumers. These calls correspond, on average, to 43 per cent of the calls made in the country in 26 operators accompanied by Anatel.

Since the start of the implementation of precautionary measures in June 2022, there has been a reduction of about 30 per cent in the volume of short calls in telecommunications networks when compared to the average of short calls per week in the month prior to the adoption of the first precautionary.
