The 2026 China–Africa Digital Capacity Building Cooperation Conference took place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China on August 28, 2026.
The conference was a significant event in the ongoing digital cooperation between China and Africa, aiming to strengthen strategic coordination and industry exchanges. It featured the launch of the China-Africa Digital Technology Cooperation Center, which will provide services such as technology showcases, overseas business support, industry matchmaking, training, and research.
The event also included discussions on digital infrastructure, digital transformation, and digital talent development, with representatives from Sudan and South Sudan calling for deeper cooperation in digital infrastructure, investment, and technology.
The conference was attended by government officials, businesses, and think tanks, and it was a key platform for discussing and launching various initiatives aimed at enhancing digital capacity building and cooperation between the two continents.
“We returned from Hangzhou, China, with a new platform for Africa–China digital cooperation now formally launched.
At last week’s 2026 China–Africa Digital Capacity Building Cooperation Conference, Secretary General John Omo joined the inauguration of the China–Africa Digital Technology Cooperation Center, established as a platform for policy dialogue, capacity development and stronger cooperation between African and Chinese digital institutions.
ATU has this week joined African and Chinese officials in Hangzhou for the first Partner Committee meeting of the China-Africa Digital Technology Cooperation Center, ahead of the Center’s formal inauguration on 28th August 2026,” said a statement on the African Telecommunications Union website.
