The rollout speed of 5G (5G speed) in the country has reached around 500 Mbps. This is claimed in a recent report from Okla. Ookla compared the average 5G download speed across four cities where both Jio and Airtel have set up their 5G networks. Bharti Airtel has launched its 5G services in eight cities. Jio’s 5G beta trial is currently available for select users in four cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Varanasi.

This news is for farmers: 5G tells when an animal has eaten food, when it has drunk water… and much more.

According to Ookla’s ‘Speedtest Intelligence’ report, Airtel’s average 5G download speed in capital Delhi was 197.98 Mbps, while Jio’s network average 5G download speed record was 598.58 Mbps, data from June. This is three times the speed of Airtel. Kolkata saw the biggest difference in 5G average download speeds.

Airtel’s average download speed is 33.83 Mbps, while Jio’s average download speed is almost 14 times higher at 482.02 Mbps. In Mumbai, one of India’s most densely populated cities, Airtel once again lags behind Jio, with Airtel’s average download speed of just 271.07 Mbps compared to Jio’s average download speed of 515.38 Mbps as of June 2022. Varanasi is the only city where the 5G speed competition between Jio and Airtel is very close. Airtel showed an average 5G average download speed of 516.57 Mbps against Jio’s average download speed of 485.22 Mbps. Operators are still recalibrating their networks, the report said. Speeds are expected to be more stable when the network is opened for commercial use.
