Bazaarvoice, Inc. Monday announced the appointment of Colin Bodell as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Bodell has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry, with a particular focus on growing fast-growing technology organizations and their platforms at scale.
As CTO, Bodell will be responsible for accelerating global innovation to support Bazaarvoice’s ambitious growth goals.
Bazaarvoice CEO Keith Nealon said: “In today’s consumer-to-consumer economy, user-generated content (UGC) is needed more than ever, and the breadth and depth of expertise that Colin brings, especially in the commerce space, has been a great asset to our clients while building our products. It helps drive the success of our services, and makes our services more accessible.”
Bodell is a proven leader who has grown several companies at scale and speed. Prior to joining Bazaarvoice, he was Shopify’s Vice President of Engineering, working on expanding the Shopify Plus platform, delivering sophisticated solutions to Shopify’s largest merchants. During his tenure, Shopify grew to US$175 billion in his GMV. Prior to that, he was the CTO of multiple organizations such as Groupon, American Eagle Outfitters and Time Inc. During his eight-year tenure, he also served as multiple vice presidents at Amazon. While there, he led his Amazon website platform and expanded the business from his US$8 billion to his over US$200 billion in GMV.
“As a former customer of Bazaarvoice’s products and services, it’s clear to me that Bazaarvoice’s market potential is enormous,” said Bodell. “E-commerce buying decisions are fundamentally based on experiential feedback (peer-to-peer reviews, ratings and recommendations). These come directly from real users and are verified as authentic and trustworthy. The company has a huge data set of user-generated content, but we’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible. Today, commerce is controlled by consumers, and like Bazaarvoice, Having a voice readily available is invaluable.”
An advocate for diversity and inclusion, Bodell is a member of the Board of Directors of anitab.org and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Women in Technology (NCWIT). He is an advisor to several pre-IPO companies. Bodell has 11 of his patents from the USPTO.
Bodell will become CTO in July 2022.
