Following the directive of the Nigerian Federal Government to telecommunications companies to bar subscribers on their network who have not linked the NIN to their SIM, advocacy body, the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has confirmed it has  received formal directives from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)  to implement the directive.

In an ALTON communication, which Cyber Era NG has received,  penned by  its Chairman  Engr. Gbenga Adebayo  and Head Operations, Gbolahan Awonuga, the association said its decision to comply with the directive was influenced by the fact that the directive followed multiple extensions of the deadline, which had been granted by the Federal Government to allow subscribers complete the NIN-SIM linkage.

The association’s statement reads in part: “ALTON members are committed to complying with the instructions and call on telecommunication subscribers who have not obtained and/or linked a NIN to their SIMs, to do so at any of the designated centres.

We remain committed to supporting the Federal Government of Nigeria and upholding the rights of citizens to communicate, to share information freely and responsibly, and to enjoy privacy and security regarding their data and their use of digital communications.”
