Meta, formerly Facebook, will now allow payments on its popular instant messaging app WhatsApp via its cryptocurrency wallet, Novi.
The feature will be rolled out in a pilot programme that will open to a limited number of people in the United States, Novi’s head Stephane Kasriel said in a tweet on Wednesday.
The announcement comes not long after the departure of Novi’s former boss, David Marcus, who said he was leaving the company after seven years.
Meta recently said it had lifted its long-standing ban on cryptocurrency ads.
