IS-Wireless, a Poland-based company that provides software-defined 4G and 5G networks, said it will deploy 5G network based on the Open-Radio Access Network (Open RAN) technology in the country from the second half of 2021.

The company said it seeks to implement the Polish solution across the world with a strategic aim to gain as much as 5 per cent of the global Open RAN market by 2025–achieving a sales figure of US$160 million per year.

It should be noted that Open RAN as technology enables companies to source hardware and software from different vendors for building their networks, thereby promoting an open interoperable network market.

The company estimates that the global income from Open RAN solutions’ sales over the coming six years will grow at a double-digit rate.

As early as 2024, the global Open RAN market may be worth US$3.2 billion and amount for nearly 10 per cent of the whole 4G and 5G market, it added.

“Open RAN most valuable quality is the innovative software, which may be based in e.g., cloud solutions. Building 5G network is this model is not only safer but also cheaper, compared to methods used in past network generations,” said IS-Wireless expert Aleksandra Checko-Jelonek.

“In Germany in particular, the government has provided over 2 billion euro for building Open RAN in the scope of their development plan. This trend will keep on growing,” Checko-Jelonek added.
