The President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, will visit Montenegro this week to participate in the Berlin Process Leaders’ Summit in Sveti Stefan. She will speak at the summit and hold a number of bilateral meetings with national and institutional leaders on the margins. Later, in Podgorica, she will hold a series of meetings with senior Montenegrin government officials, development partners, clients and representatives of the business and diplomatic communities.

The EBRD strongly supports the key objectives of the Berlin Process, including furthering regional integration in the Western Balkans and gradually integrating it into the EU. The Bank is a leader in funding the Western Balkans connectivity agenda and the largest international financial institution investor in the Western Balkans. In 2025 alone, it invested €1.7 billion(US$1.9billion) in the region. The Bank has more than 160 staff on the ground, located in six Resident Offices and a growing regional hub.

President Renaud-Basso’s visit to Montenegro comes at an important moment in the country’s development as it advances its EU accession agenda and pursues major investments in sustainable infrastructure, connectivity and energy security. During her meetings, the EBRD President will discuss how the EBRD can continue to support Montenegro’s reform priorities and economic development through investments, policy engagement and technical assistance.

Ahead of the visit, President Renaud-Basso said: “Montenegro has made important progress on its European path and has a real opportunity to translate this momentum into lasting economic gains for its citizens. The EBRD remains a committed partner to Montenegro, supporting investments and reforms that strengthen competitiveness, accelerate the green transition and improve connectivity. I look forward to discussing with our partners how we can continue to work together to support sustainable growth and the country’s EU aspirations.”

Montenegro is one of the most advanced EU accession candidates in the Western Balkans. The EBRD has invested more than €1.1 billion in the country to date through projects that support greener, more resilient and more inclusive economic growth. Recent investments include financing for intelligent transport systems, railway modernisation and renewable energy development.
