Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. today announced that its Qualcomm® vehicle-to-everything (V2X) chipsets will support nearly all major regional V2X deployments worldwide through a single platform, Cyber Era NG learns.

We gather as the latest expansion of this capability, Qualcomm V2X chipsets will support the 760 MHz ARIB-T109 standard, bringing native compatibility with Japan’s V2X band alongside the 5.9 GHz band already supported. These advancements are designed to reduce the need for region-specific hardware, lower deployment complexity, and accelerate the deployment of V2X technologies that can improve safety for drivers, passengers, and vulnerable road users (VRUs), including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

V2X is a unique component of the vehicle safety stack, providing real-time awareness of hazards beyond a vehicle’s line of sight while meeting the stringent security and reliability requirements of safety-critical applications. V2X enables direct communication to detect hazards around corners, through obstacles, and beyond visible range, enhancing safety for vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users.

Recognizing the potential of connected safety technologies to help reduce road incidents, Qualcomm Technologies and Toyota recognize the importance of broad industry collaboration in advancing Vision Zero, the global initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries through greater industry collaboration, interoperability, and adoption of connected safety technologies. Achieving this vision requires collaboration among automakers, technology providers, governments, and infrastructure stakeholders. V2X can play a critical role in advancing this vision by providing reliable real-time communication to help improve safety for all road users, enable cooperation with smart infrastructure and augment the vehicle’s advanced driver assistance system as the only non-line-of-sight sensor. Through investment in globally interoperable V2X technology, Qualcomm Technologies aims to accelerate adoption with scalable solutions that can have a positive impact on road safety in all geographies and that can support additional use cases as vehicles and transportation systems continue to evolve.

“V2X has the potential to play a transformative role in road safety, but realizing its full impact requires solutions that can scale globally and operate across regional ecosystems,” said Executive Vice President and Group General Manager, Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT, and Robotics, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc Nakul Duggal. “By extending our V2X technology abstraction to support Japan’s 760 MHz standard, we are helping enable more interoperable and globally deployable V2X solutions. As adoption of V2X technology continues to grow, we are taking an important step toward accelerating the deployment and advancing a shared Vision Zero goal with Toyota and other stakeholders across the industry to help eliminate road fatalities.”

“Toyota welcomes Qualcomm Technologies’ efforts to foster broader industry collaboration toward a zero-accident society,” said Chief Officer, Digital Information and Communication Group, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Chair of ITS Japan Keiji Yamamoto. “Road accidents remain a global challenge that cannot be solved by any single company, industry sector, or region alone. Eliminating traffic accidents requires the collective efforts of automakers, technology providers, governments, and infrastructure stakeholders. We highly appreciate Qualcomm Technologies’ continued investment in innovative technologies and its leadership in bringing together stakeholders across the mobility ecosystem to help advance toward zero traffic accidents and Mobility for All.”
