At the launch of the book “The Catalyst: Nigerian Tech Evolution Through a Journalist’s Lens,’ written by the immediate past editor of the Punch, Dayo Oketola, the current Lagos State Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso noted: “When editor’s write the society benefits.” Little did Mr. Omotoso reckon that in time to come,  his passive comment at a book launch was to inspire many individuals and captains of industries not only to seek to create new relationships  but consolidate subsisting ones with journalists.  Tim Akano typifies such individuals and corporate captains.

https://timakano.com/ describes him: Tim Akano can be best described as multifaceted and multidimensional. He is an Investor, Entrepreneur, Author, Mentor, Philanthropist, Career coach, and highly sought-after Public Speaker. He is the Founder/CEO of New Horizons Nigeria, the largest ICT training institute in Nigeria, and a franchisee of New Horizons International, the world’s Number one ICT training institute with a Head office in California and offices in 90 countries around the world. He is the President of One Africa Initiatives, and the Chairman of FABAAW, a user’s-owned multidimensional social-media Platform.

20 years after establishing the ICT training institution that currently boasts a fast spreading footprint, an appreciative Akano was to credit journalists largely with the milestone his institution has achieved. He said: “What we do as ICT trainers is marketing, but journalists validate our efforts.” Akano addressing the end-of-year meeting of the umbrella technology journalists, under the aegis of the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters Association(NITRA),Thursday at the firm’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, south west, Nigeria, paid tribute to journalists who followed their evolution till date.  As his way of giving back to the constituency that literally grew his firm through constant and regular reportage, Akano announced a training package for NITRA members in the first quarter of 2026, saying nothing was too much for such a critical constituency as journalism and journalists represented.

Chairman of NITRA, Chike Onwuegbuchi thanked Akano, not only for sponsoring the meeting,  but for the training  gesture and promised to ensure that the partnership between NITRA and New Horizons Nigeria grew from strength to strength. One of the pioneer ICT journalists, who, himself, has authored many books on ICT reportage, Aaron Ukodie, said of Mr. Akano: “Tim Akano is exceptional in terms of relationship building.”  Other journalists spoke in the same vein about Akano, too.

The Founder/CEO of New Horizons Nigeria informed that not only is his firm the largest ICT training institute in Nigeria but the whole of Africa!
