Trump Administration Instructs US Embassies To Stop Scheduling New Student Visa Appointments

315views

The federal government has instructed US embassies and consulates around the world to temporarily stop scheduling new student visa appointments.

According to a diplomatic cable reviewed by ABC News, the pause will give the State Department time to expand its social media vetting process for applications.

The pause does not impact existing appointments for student visa applications at US consulates. This order does not mention a change for existing visas.

Critics argue the additional time could seriously slow the student visa application process, potentially deterring international students from applying.

In a statement, the University of New Hampshire said it is aware of the new guidance and is closely monitoring the situation.

The university currently has 500 students studying in the US on F-1 student visas.

At Dartmouth College, reports show international students made up about 15 per cent of undergraduates enrolled for fall 2024.
