The renowned fast-casual chain, Panera Bread is grappling with a significant digital setback as its website and app have been inaccessible since Saturday morning. Despite stores being operational, customers are limited to ordering at the register due to the outage, which has also affected kiosks within units and persists through Monday.
While Panera’s website offers reassurance that operations are underway, with warm ovens and a ready team, the app cites “essential system maintenance and enhancements” as the cause. However, company officials have not explained the outage, leaving customers and workers in units in the dark.
Complicating matters, guests enrolled in the Unlimited Sip Club, Panera’s subscription program, were provided complimentary drink cups at the register, as staff lacked access to verify subscriptions or manage the loyalty program.
Reports on Reddit suggest broader implications, including disruptions to catering and gift card services. Surprisingly, third-party delivery orders continue unaffected, adding to the mystery surrounding the outage.
Among workers, frustrations mount over the lack of corporate communication regarding a resolution, with speculation circulating about a potential cyberattack, albeit unsubstantiated.
The timing of the outage coincides with Panera Bread’s anticipation of its most significant menu transformation to date, slated for launch on April 4. Despite this, select units in California are closing early for staff training, indicative of the chain’s proactive approach amidst the disruption.
