Ericsson Partners To Optimize Drone Operations For Danish Businesses

By Oystein Bergmann, Senior Correspondent Scandinavia

Ericsson is partnering with TDC NET, Relatel, and TDC Erhverv and combining 5G capabilities to serve four Danish businesses: TV2, Connect 44, Lorenz Technology, and Openhouse. Leveraging the Ericsson Drone Mobility solution, this is a joint pilot to test service packages for their daily drone operations. This includes optimized drone connectivity, remote command and control, and video streaming.

In recent years, commercial drones have become increasingly crucial for business operations solving vital tasks such as inspections and surveillance.

5G capabilities are a key contributor to unlocking the full value of drones, such as automating data flows and operating beyond the visual line of sight. This partnered pilot project will play a key role in evolving drone capabilities.

5G Innovation Manager from TDC NET, Jakob Werner says, “It is exciting to now have drones flying and operating on our 5G network. This is an important milestone on our joint journey towards enabling drones to take on even more critical tasks solved autonomically.”

Head of Ericsson ONE, Daniel Alexus says, “It is exciting that Ericsson Drone Mobility originates from Ericsson ONE, our internal accelerator for intrapreneurs. By leveraging Ericsson’s technology leadership within 5G together with our partners, drones can improve worker safety, develop new innovative services offered by businesses and impact the consumer experience.”

The pilot started on February 15 and will run until May 2022.
