In a bid to propose richer value, and, by so doing,  potentially attract interest from stakeholders from far and near to attend its seminar  holding virtually on January 25, the International Institute of Communications(IIC) Brussels, Belgium Chapter, have further released a crack list of panel of experts to join others  already confirmed to highlight the event, Cyber Era NG has learnt.

The additions to the speaker list are contained in an IIC advisory just sighted by this medium, authored by the IIC Director-General, Lynn Robinson.  The topics for discussion are unchanged:

  • The European approach to AI. What should the AI legal framework achieve in terms of policy goals?  What are the challenges?  What is the timetable?
  • How do companies use AI and to what extent will they be impacted by the proposed AI Act?
  • AI, data protection impacts and overlaps, if any, with the GDPR. How may the AI and GDPR programmes’ implementation interplay?
  • Will the European approach to trustworthy AI influence AI governance and regulation in other parts of the world?

The now boosted speakers list looks like this:

  • Policy & Consultation, Head of Unit, European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) Anna Buchta
  • EMEA Privacy Policy Director, Facebook, Cecilia Alvarez Rigaudias
  • Partner and Deputy Co-Chair, Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group, Squire Patton Boggs; Chair, IIC Brussels Chapter, Rosa Barcelo
  • Assistant General Counsel – Global Privacy Compliance Assurance and Europe Data Protection Officer, Mastercard, Helena Koning
  • Chairman of the Litigation Chamber and Member of the Executive Committee, Data Protection Authority, Belgium,  Hielke Hijmans
  • Legal Officer at DG CNECT, Unit A2 Artificial Intelligence Policy Development and Coordination, European Commission, Yordanka Ivanova
  • Head of Public Policy at Snap Inc, Laura Seritti
  • Senior Director, Head of Responsible Tech & Competition, European Government Affairs, Microsoft, Cornelia Kutterer

Recall that the first panelists to be confirmed for this event, as earlier reported by this medium, listed:

  • Policy & Consultation, Head of Unit, European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) Anna Buchta
  • EMEA Privacy Policy Director, Facebook Cecilia Alvarez Rigaudias
  • Senior Director for EU Government Affairs (AI, Privacy and Digital Policies), Microsoft Cornelia Kutterer
  • Chairman of the Litigation Chamber and Member of the Executive Committee, Data Protection Authority, Belgium Hielke Hijmans
  • Legal Officer at DG CNECT, Unit A2 Artificial Intelligence Policy Development and Coordination, European Commission, Yordanka Ivanova

In April 2021, the European Commission proposed its very first legal framework on the application of AI, through the draft Artificial Intelligence Act. Whilst the proposal slowly advances through the EU legislative process before it can become a binding regulation, companies based in the EU have started discussing the European approach to AI and the potential impact on their operations and regulatory compliance.

Registrations for the webinar are ongoing.
