With a rise in nationalism, authoritarianism and intolerance, the need to reinvent democracy is more urgent than ever.

The Athens Democracy Forum is hosted by The New York Times Op-Ed columnist Roger Cohen and moderated by senior NYT journalists. The Forum is delighted to partner with the EBRD, which is a Gold Sponsor of the 2020 event. The two organisations held a recent joint webinar titled ‘Will capitalism survive the coronavirus pandemic?’

Focussing on the theme of ‘The New Abnormal: Reimagining Democracy’, the event will gather together leaders from government, business, civic society and the not-for-profit sector to explore real solutions to the most pressing issues facing democracy.

This year’s Forum features a free, online event plus an additional small conclave of guests and speakers in Athens.  The programme explores critical issues including the future of capitalism, geopolitical shifts, street protests, the use of technology, the power of belief, and much more.

The speaker line-up includes Kyriakos Mitsotakis (Prime Minister, Hellenic Republic), Juan Guaidó (President, Parliament of Venezuela), Marija Pejčinović Burić (Secretary General, Council of Europe), Yuval Noah Harari (Historian and Professor), Kerry Kennedy (President, Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights), Kishore Mahbubani (Distinguished Fellow, Asia Research Institute) and many more.  https://telecom.economictimes.indiatimes.com
