Beijing-based OTT and smart TV service maker Zeasn has announced the launch of a new AVOD called WhaleLive.

Despite what its nature-sounding title might suggest, WhaleLive is a broad AVOD launching on the Philips smart TV platform that offers free access to “ a wide selection of news, movies, kids, music, sports, and entertainment channels”.

The AVOD will launch initially in the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria and Switzerland with plans to roll it out to other countries and regions in the coming weeks and months.

The streamer gets its name from Zeasn’s Whale OS smart TV operating system and is one of the core services of its Whale Eco platform that reaches 30 million users per month. WhaleLive is promised to be on “millions of smart TVs” by the end of 2020.

In terms of the platform itself, WhaleLive is described by Zeasn as “an incredibly user-friendly platform that allows users to easily discover high-quality live channels and enjoy top entertainment.”

Raymond Chung, chief technology officer at Zeasn, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to offer WhaleLive to our users around the world. It is a powerful supplement to traditional broadcast TV channels because it brings together hundreds of different types of live streaming services.

CEO of Zeasn, Jason He added: “The launch of WhaleLive enriches our Whale Ecosystem, making it more comprehensive and complete. With WhaleLive we bring a new easy way for our content partners to be onboard, we can definitely help them to monetize their diverse content with ease and have a huge impact on the business while serving the needs of our users.”
