Com Hem To Switch Off Analogue Services In September

By Stuart Thomson

Tele2-owned Swedish cable operator Com Hem is to switch off its analogue cable TV service on September 8.

The operator currently provides a subscription-free basic offering that is available in analogue format, and this will be replaced by a digital service.

Com hem said that about 70 per cent of the 1.6 million homes that take a TV service from it currently take a digital service.

The new digital basic offering will provide channels SVT1, SVT2, SVT24, SVT Barn, Kunskapskanalen, TV3, TV4, Kanal 5, TV6, Sjuan, TV8, TV9, TV11, ATG Live and local channels as well as Finnish, Danish and Norwegian TV, depending on the location of the subscriber.

Most of the channels in the offering can also be watched via the Comhem Play service throughout the EU and can be streamed via Chromecast of Apple Airplay.

Analogue-only customers that lack a TV equipped with DVB-C tuner will need to acquire a digital set-top from Com Hem or replace their TV with a compatible model.

“We are doing this so that all 1.6 million people living in a Com Hem household will have a better picture and sound experience, and a competitive basic range of TV channels that they can watch on their TV or via Comhem Play on, for example. a tablet or mobile phone. Digitization also means that in the future we will be able to offer our customers even higher broadband speeds by stopping transmitting analogue signals now and freeing up capacity for faster broadband in our network,” said commercial manager at Com Hem, Samuel Skott.
