Telco And Pay TV Revenues Set For Growth In Japan

By DTVE Reporter

Telecom and pay TV revenues in Japan will reach US$153.1 billion in 2024, up from US$124.1 billion last year, according to research by GlobalData.

According to the latest Japan Telecom Country Intelligence Report, the 4.3 per cent compound annual growth rate in revenue will be driven by growth in mobile data, fixed-broadband and pay TV.

The report’s authors believe that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the telelcom and pay TV markets in the country will be relatively mild, thanks to Japan’s successful containment measures.

According to GlobalData, mobile revenue will account for 62.3 per cent of total telecom and pay-TV services revenue in 2024.

Mobile data revenue will grow over 2019-2024, at a CAGR of 10.2 per cent, driven by a rise in data ARPS and growth in mobile Internet subscriptions.

NTT Docomo held a majority share of 36.8 per cent of total mobile subscriptions in 2019 and will maintain its leadership through 2024 due to its continued focus on expansion of its mobile network as well as strong presence in the postpaid segment, according to the report.    https://www.digitaltveurope.com
