Thomas Colclough has been chosen as the new district director of the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) Charlotte District, the federal agency announced June 19.
“I am delighted that Tom Colclough will be the new director of the agency’s Charlotte District,” said EEOC Chair Janet Dhillon. “He has truly risen through the ranks, and his qualifications and dedication to the EEOC’s mission will be an asset to the agency.”
Colclough said, “I am humbled by Chair Dhillon’s confidence in appointing me to this role. The work we do is extremely important. I will endeavor to live up to the words of Sally Koch, ‘Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.’”
Colclough, currently acting district director in Charlotte, is a 30-year employee of the EEOC. He started his EEOC career in 1988 through the agency’s Stay-in-School programme. In this programme, now called the Pathways program, Colclough worked full-time for the EEOC one semester and then went back to school full-time for the next semester for a two-year period.
Over the years, Colclough held progressively higher positions, moving steadily through the investigator, supervisory and managerial ranks, achieving an appointment as area director for the Raleigh Area Office, and subsequently deputy district director in Charlotte. During his tenure with the EEOC, Colclough has been the recipient of numerous agency awards.
An active participant of the agency’s outreach education programs, Colclough regularly presents to employer groups, special emphasis groups, non-profits and student organizations. He also has steered the development of many important enforcement cases.
Colclough, a retired North Carolina National Guard veteran, is a graduate of Saint Augustine’s College, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He also holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
The EEOC’s Charlotte District Office combats job discrimination in North Carolina and large portions of Virginia and South Carolina.
The EEOC advances opportunity in the workplace by enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination.
