The diligent, spirited execution of the 8-Point Agenda he set for the management and the telecommunications sector on assumption of office in 2015, has majorly earned chief telecommunications sector regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC), Professor Umar Garba Danbatta a second term of five years in office.
Since assuming the helms at the NCC, Danbatta has been pursuing the following agenda buoyed by a cerebral board and fortified by an army of competent management and staff:
Facilitate Broadband Penetration
Improve Quality of Service
Optimise usage and Benefits of Spectrum
Promote ICT Innovation and Investment Opportunities
Facilitate Strategic Collaboration and Partnership
Protect and Empower Consumers
Promote Fair Competition and Inclusive Growth and
Ensure Regulatory Excellence and Operational Efficiency
However, Nigerian Leader Muhammadu Buhari was persuaded by the recommendation of his Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami and approved Prof Danbatta as NCCs boss in an effort to consolidate the gains made in the telecommunications sector in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy.
Spokesperson to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Uwa Suleiman in a press statement Friday, which Cyber Era has seen, says Prof Danbattas reappointment was based on the recommendation of Dr. Pantami, who is a Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society(FNCS)pursuant to the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
“While wishing Professor Danbatta the best, the Honourable Minister directs him to significantly improve on the overall performance of the Commission as well as ensure that adequate mechanisms are put in place to facilitate the implementation of all policies of Federal Government through the Ministry. Furthermore, the Honourable Minister enjoined him to ensure that the interest of telecommunication consumers, Nigerians and investors are adequately protected, stated Mrs. Suleiman.
