SAFNOG-6 Deferred Due To COVID-19

By Cyber Era Reporter

As the world is facing the ongoing challenge of the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), which has had a material impact on a number of local, regional and global events and businesses across various industries, the 6th installment of the Southern Africa Network Operators Group (SAFNOG-6) meeting initially scheduled for the September, 2020, has not been spared, as the pandemic has made logistical planning uncertain amongst sponsors, supporters and venues.

SAFNOG is a mailing list established to provide a forum for the exchange of technical information and the discussion of specific implementation issues that require cooperation among network service providers.

Information authored on behalf of the Management Committee of SAFNOG by Mark Tinka, and seen by Cyber Era, said the postponement was a rather difficult, but responsible decision.   SAFNOG-6 meeting will now hold from 20th – 22nd September, 2021, in order to ensure that safety and health came first.

Tinka further stated: “SAFNOG would also like to take this opportunity to encourage its and other Network Operators Groups members to actively use and increase their participation on this and other mailing lists around the world, as the learning and engagement process never ends; and in fact, is probably more crucial in these times. The operational community can continue to exist successfully even throughout this period of social distancing.”
