To stave off service disruptions in the national network and contribute its quota towards curbing the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) nationwide, in case of a lockdown by either the national or subnational governments, the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria(ATCON) would like all technical staff of its member companies to have national right of passage and has applied through sector regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC) to get this done. ATCON pushed the request through its National Executive Council (NEC).
ATCON information seen by Cyber Era and authored by its Executive Secretary, Ajibola Olude, says the request is made because of the critical nature of telecommunications infrastructure in managing the entire situation and the need for maintenance and repairs that may arise during the possible lockdown.
“We count on NCC to expedite action in this regard while we appreciate the Commission for being proactive and attentive. We also urge all our teeming members and their staff to comply with all the guidelines stipulated by the Federal Ministry of Health and all relevant authorities at State levels,” stated Olude.
