Communications And Digital Economy Minister To Deliver UNILAG Convocation Lecture

The Senate of the University of Lagos(UNILAG), Akoka, Lagos, south west Nigeria, has picked Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Ali Ibrahim Isa Pantami,  to deliver the institution’s 51st Convocation Lecture, scheduled to hold on Monday, March 9, 2020.

UNILAG Vice Chancellor Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe disclosed  this at the Pre- Convocation  World Press Conference and Anthem Launch held at the Senate Chamber, 2nd Floor, Senate House on Monday, March 2, 2020.

In his speech, the Vice Chancellor mentioned that the Convocation Ceremonies would take place between Monday, March 2 and Friday, March 13, 2020 at the J.F. Ade. Ajayi Auditorium. The lecture by Dr. Pantami is part of the programmes lined for the Convocation.

Said Prof. Ogundipe: “On Monday, March 9, 2020, the Convocation Lecture titled: “The Role of Disruptive Technologies In Sustainable Economic Transformation” will be delivered by the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, FNCS, FBCS, FIIM at the J.F. Ade. Ajayi Auditorium. “

The Chairman of the Convocation Lecture is the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, north central, Nigeria,  Professor Nimi Briggs, a Member of the Order of the Niger (OON), and Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons( FWACS) and Fellow  of the Nigerian Academy of Science(FAS) , among others.

The Vice Chancellor had said earlier: “In the pursuit of making the Institution a world-class hub of creative thinkers and harnessing potentials not just in Nigeria but internationally, the University continues to build partnerships with reputable institutions, the public sector, industry players, commercial enterprises and crucially, the media in achieving our laid down objectives as evident in my six-point agenda.“ And, it is in this light watchers of developments around the ivory tower, see  Pantami’s choice as the Convocation lecturer.

Pantami , until his appointment, by President Muhammadu Buhari , was Nigeria’s Chief Information Technology Officer/Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency(NITDA).  Pantami, a multiple award recipient, is also a renown Islamic scholar.
