Samsung Stakes Claim On 5G Handset Market

Samsung announced it shipped some 6.7 million Galaxy 5G smartphones in 2019, with the devices claiming more than half of the global 5G base.

The company, which offers five 5G models (Galaxy S10 5G, Note10 5G and Note10+ 5G, as well as the recently launched Galaxy A90 5G

and Galaxy Fold 5G), said as of end-November its shipments represented 53.9 per cent of the worldwide total.

Samsung is set to launch the world’s first 5G tablet – Galaxy Tab S6 5G – in its home market of South Korea in the first quarter of this year.

VP of research at Counterpoint Research, Neil Shah added 5G smartphones contributed just 1 per cent of global smartphone sales last year, with that percentage forecast to increase to 18 per cent in 2020.
