392views

Samsung Electronics acquired US-based network services provider TeleWorld Solutions (TWS) for an undisclosed sum, as part of a bid by the South Korea-based vendor to strengthen its services portfolio and bolster its growing networks business.

The company stated TWS will bring competency in RF, along with expertise in network design, installation, testing and optimisation services for cable and mobile operators. The business will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary, with its current leadership team continuing to helm.

EVP and head of Samsung Electronics’ Networks business, Paul Kyungwhoon Cheun said the deal will allow it to “meet mobile carriers’ growing needs for improving their 4G and 5G networks, and eventually create new opportunities to enhance our service capabilities to our customers”.

The move comes as Samsung works to use the 5G transition to establish a stronger position in the global equipment market.

In the US, it made inroads at AT&T, Verizon and Sprint as a supplier for their 5G deployments, and also inked deals for the next-generation tech with South Korea’s three major players and Canadian operator Videotron.-Mobile World Live
