The shape of the future global order, security and development are cardinal themes of this year’s Rhodes Forum, to be keynoted by President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou, which continues its established focus on African and global development.

Each year’s Rhodes Forum is expected to make a substantive contribution to current debates around Africa’s future as a pillar of the global order and driver of economic growth.

The 17th edition of the Rhodes Forum organized by the Dialogue of Civilizations Research Institute (DOC), will take place on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 October on the Greek island of Rhodes under the title ‘Global (dis)order: Towards dialogue-based worldviews’.

Rhodes Forum is the DOC’s flagship global affairs conference. President Issoufou will share an African perspective on issues related to global order, security and economic development with the Rhodes Forum’s audience of more than 300 senior policymakers, diplomats, academics and businesspeople from around the world as well as participate in the Forum’s Focus on Africa panel to discuss how the continent can become a driver of global development.

Since 2003 the Rhodes Forum brings together senior leaders from the business, academic, diplomatic and political communities, including current and former heads of states and government, to discuss most pressing global challenges.

This year’s forum is organized around three areas of critical global importance and aims to facilitate a better understanding of the deep changes our societies are undergoing. The forum will therefore shed light on initiatives that contribute substantially towards sustainable economic development, propose new concepts for the architecture of international governance in the context of shifts in power within the global economy, and examine the restoration of civility and promotion of ethical standards in the digital age.
